Lucas Publishing Company
A private publishing house · Est. 1899
We make a small number of books each year for people who built something worth recording, and for the families who will inherit it.
The House
Est. 1899, Buffalo, Wyoming

Albert Gallatin Lucas practiced law before he chose the press. In 1899 he came west to Buffalo, Wyoming, founded Lucas Publishing, and led The Buffalo Bulletin.
His son, Frank E. Lucas, learned the trade as a printer’s apprentice. He served as the 13th Governor of Wyoming, then returned, by choice, to the newsroom.
The newspapers are gone from the family. The trade is not. Lucas Publishing Company carries it forward the way it began: carefully, privately, and with respect for what is put into print.
Commissions
What the house makes
Every commission is fully managed: interviews, writing and editing, design, printing and publication. The client gives their time and their story. We do the rest.
Executive & Founder Books
The ideas, decisions and record of a career, written in the author’s voice and published under the author’s name.
Legacy & Family Histories
The story of a life, a family, a ranch or an enterprise, drawn from interviews and archives, and made to last on a shelf for generations.
Editing, Design & Print
Edited in order, from structure to final pages. Interior design, paper and binding chosen for the book, delivered as a finished volume.
Each commission is scoped privately after a confidential conversation.
The Lucas Standard
The work is considered. The standards are consistent. The results hold up.
Confidential from the first word
A confidentiality agreement precedes any discussion of the work.
The author’s name, the author’s rights
Copyright stays with the author. The final print and digital files are delivered at publication.
One standard
It does not change with the size of the project.
How engagements begin
By referral and private inquiry
Most of our clients come to us by referral. If you were referred, please tell us by whom. Every inquiry is read personally and answered in confidence.
